Action Learning is a structured human resource development method, primarily used for leadership development in the context of off-the-job training.
In Action Learning programs, participants—often junior managers—are released from their regular roles for an extended period, typically more than six months. During this time, they join a cross-functional or interdepartmental project team to work on a complex, real-world problem from initial analysis to full implementation.
The focus is on learning through real challenges in unfamiliar settings. Participants gain critical skills not in a classroom, but through problem-solving, collaboration, and exposure to new organizational environments. Learning takes place across multiple venues: the temporary assignment location, the project group, and specially designed preparatory and support courses.
Action Learning encourages experiential learning, adaptability, and strategic thinking—making it a powerful tool for developing future leaders.
