It should be no surprise that the business landscape is changing. Happens all the time. But the speed of change might appear to be accelerating.
When organizations are facing change, it becomes important to operate effectively and efficiently. There’s nothing worse than trying to maneuver through change in a sloppy manner. It leads to miscommunication and possibly a lack of achieving the goals.
This includes HR departments. Organizations ask operations, sales, etc. to run effectively and efficiently. The same is expected of human resources. Now could be a good time to review how the HR department is run and make some adjustments. Here are a few articles that can get you started.
Human resources departments have a wonderful opportunity to show their value to the business. Not only through the use of employee stories (qualitative) but using analytics (quantitative). The best way to establish the value connection starts with understanding the organization’s value.
HR Professionals Can Be Friendly Without Being Friends
HR is expected to know what the workforce is thinking so they need to have a rapport with employees. This can be a tricky subject. HR wants employees to share their thoughts while, at the same time, they don’t want to get too close. At every level of the organization, HR needs to be viewed as objective and impartial. But that doesn’t mean HR can’t be friendly.
I wish I could say that the frequent change we’re experiencing is going to just go away, but I’m not sure that’s the case. As business professionals, we need to get comfortable with change. And as HR professionals, we need to help the organization get comfortable with it. The good news is we have tools and processes that can help us make good decisions and create challenging but achievable strategies.
How to Develop a Good Company Policy
I know that sometimes organizations – and human resources departments – are accused of having too many policies. But having good policies is necessary. The emphasis here being on the word “good”. Policies provide consistency. And consistency can assist with maintaining compliance, streamlining processes / procedures, and providing efficiency.
How to Successfully Outsource When You Need To
Using the services of a contractor or consultant doesn’t have to be agonizing. Using a good process and having a well-thought-out agreement can be the start of a successful long-term partnership.
HR departments are responsible for developing talent strategies and internal policies. We help the organization hire great employees and great contractors, when necessary. We’re tasked with being impartial and objective … and friendly at the same time. There are days when this can be an almost overwhelming task.
Finding good resources and staying focused can guide those first steps toward creating an effective and efficient HR department.
