Everyone wants a bigger and better title–a vanity title–so what’s the harm in a little title inflation? A little title inflation probably isn’t a big deal, but when pay, duties, and title all don’t match you’re in for a wild ride, as Chick-fil-a Executive Director Kathryn Martin found out when she posted about an HR director opening on LinkedIn. She wrote:
We are eagerly searching for a Human Resources Director to join our senior leadership team.
This role was my former title; one that shaped how I think about people, systems, and leadership. It requires balancing compliance and care, structure and humanity, long-term strategy and daily realities. It challenged me to grow in ways I didn’t expect, and it ultimately prepared me for the work I’m doing now.
