Further Training
« Back to Glossary Index

Also known as continuing education or education and training, further training refers to all personnel development initiatives aimed at improving employee qualifications, building upon initial training. It is crucial for enhancing skills and ensuring employees remain up-to-date in their respective fields. Types of further training include:

  1. Maintenance Training: Focuses on compensating for missing knowledge or skills due to a break in professional practice.

  2. Extension Training: Designed to acquire additional professional knowledge and skills beyond an employee’s current job responsibilities.

  3. Adaptive Training: Aims to help employees adjust to changing working conditions, often driven by technological advances. These can be either on-the-job or off-the-job training.

  4. Advanced Training: Supports career progression, facilitating advancement within the company hierarchy.

Among these, adaptive and advanced training are particularly vital in helping employees keep pace with changes in their work environment or in their careers.

The process of continuing education typically involves:

  • Needs assessment: Identifying the areas where further training is required.

  • Needs fulfillment: Addressing those needs through appropriate educational measures.

Further training can be provided within the company or externally. External training is typically delivered by independent trainers or institutions and is referred to as off-the-job training.
